Product Description
The S609 is a voltage controlled bit crusher and sample rate reducer with a bias feature. The BitC knob/CV smoothly controls the amount of bit crushing which will introduce stepy artifacts into any waveform. The speed knob controls how fast the bit crushing adapts to the level (volume) of the audio. Putting the speed to a low amount will make the bit crushing behave as if it’s controlled by an EG when the input level changes.
The SR knob/CV controls the internal sampling rate. At full, the sample rate will operate at the rate of your DAW. At minimum, the sampling rate will be reduced to 1/100 of your DAW’s sampling rate. Notice here that SoloRack’s oversampling does NOT affect the SR sampling rate. This is meant by design. Since the whole purpose of sampling rate reduction here is to introduce forced aliasing. You will get a bit cleaner results when oversampling* but the main forced aliasing effect will stay.
The Bias knob/CV moves the stair steps created by BitC up and down. This gives a subtle movement effect without changing the main character of the sound. To disable Bias, place the knob at 12:00 o’clock. In case of CV control, the Bias knob acts as an attenuator.
* Because of the frequencies that reflect back from above your DAW’s nyquist.
